The Cylinders in Monet’s Garden Caroline Lancaster Ceramics 2 Class of 2023
I’ve been in Ms. Sanyour’s ceramic class for two years now. Last year we did a cylinder workshop, and I’ve enjoyed making them ever since. I love gifting them to my family members as little pots for plants. Although this isn’t my first time working with clay, I had to brush up on my cylinder throwing skills. For my “Discover Your Path” project, I threw a bunch of cylinders to use as flower/plant pots. However, I wanted there to be something different about my pieces as a whole. I thought about when I was younger and visited Monet’s Garden. I loved the beauty of his paintings and how he painted them which helped inspire my work. I then decided, as my unique touch to my pots, I wanted to glaze them how Monet paints. Hence the title of my artwork, “The Cylinders in Monet’s Garden”. I’d fill each cylinder with a simple green plant to really get the Monet feel. I hope my viewers are able to look at my pieces and really recognize how well bright colors can compliment the beauty of a simple plant.
Me and my ribbons(and Carter's finger). I won 3rd place for "Functional"!
